Behavior policy

The Burton Public Library is committed to providing a welcoming, safe, and orderly environment for patrons to enjoy Library materials and services. Behavior that interferes with the effective use of the Library will not be permitted. Inappropriate behavior includes, but is not limited to: 

· Littering 

· Audible cell phone use (Phones may be used in the front and rear entrances of Library. Text messaging is acceptable anywhere in the Library) 

· Loitering or roaming, alone or in a group 

· Speaking loudly, running, or engaging in horseplay 

· Lying on furniture or floors, putting feet on furniture, walls, or equipment 

· Playing electronic devices except with earphones 

· Engaging in inappropriate displays of affection or sexual activity 

· Soliciting, campaigning, or petitioning for any purpose 

· Using threatening, profane, or offensive language or gestures 

· Allowing children to behave disruptively or destructively 

· Harassing others, either verbally or through actions 

· Interfering with access by congregating in or near entrances, exits, and stairways 

· Blocking access to materials 

· Bringing firearms or other weapons into the Library

· Possessing, selling, or using alcohol or illegal substances 

· Smoking or using other tobacco products in the Library 

· Damaging or theft of Library materials, equipment, or property

· Bringing animals other than service animals or animals used for Library programming into the building 

· Entering the Library with bare feet or chest 

· Disorderly conduct - see Village of Burton Codified Ordinances 

Light snacks and covered beverages are permitted. Please remember to discard cans, bottles, and wrappers. 

Please recognize that the Library is not responsible for lost or stolen items. 

We want everyone to enjoy their time at the Library. We reserve the right to restrict the use of the Library facility, premises, and privileges to those who do not abide by the Behavior Policy. Failure to comply with a reasonable staff request may result in removal from Library premises, a ban from Library facilities, the suspension of Library privileges, and/or arrest and prosecution.
